About Barb
My Story
I have over 10 years of marketing, public relations and lobbying experience. As the owner and founder of 17th Street Communications I am responsible for boring things like accounting, and fun stuff like collaborating with client’s communications teams, forging strategic partnerships, and going home satisfied that clients’ goals are being met.
Prior to 17th Street Communications, I served as the Town of Sahuarita’s first-ever Communications Manager, where I created and implemented public outreach strategies. Having so much fun, I decided to start my own firm so I could work with multiple organizations on more varied projects.
I have been recognized for my professionalism and success within the community as one of nine “Up and Comers” for the Tucson region in 2009 by Inside Tucson Business, a finalist for the Arizona Daily Star’s “40 Under 40” Award, and a “Local Hero” in 2008 by Tucson Weekly.
Outside of the office, you’ll most likely find me breaking a sweat while running, swimming or cycling. I also teach indoor cycling at O2 Modern Fitness in downtown Tucson. My clients definitely benefit from the focus and energy that my fitness regimen provides.
As for community service, I am committed. Currently, I serve as President of the Board of Directors for the Santa Cruz Valley Heritage Alliance. I am also a current class member for the Greater Tucson Leadership organization, and am a past board member of the Green Valley-Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce and the Tucson chapter of the Public Relations Society of America
A proud graduate of the University of Arizona with a B.S. in Marketing from the Eller College of Management, I recently returned to Eller to pursue my MBA, which I will earn in 2012. Clients can benefit from my MBA concentrations, which are in Marketing and Entrepreneurship.
I credit my family’s strong ties to local government for my dedication and drive to serve my community. I am particularly proud of my father and grandfather, who were both decorated police officers and took great pride in their work.
